MTN Nigeria is piloting its new enhanced broadband internet service in the nation's commercial capital city of Lagos.

The MTN HyNet LTE service is a prepaid internet service offering speeds of up to 2 Mbps and will be rolled out by MTN Business.

A unique feature of the service is the unrestricted data usage. Users can also choose their desired bandwidth on the service and the modems are Wi-Fi enabled. The broadband internet service also comes with VoIP capability and users can switch to either indoor or outdoor modems.

The MTN HyNet service is delivered over the network's WiMAX network with coverage spanning select cities in Nigeria.

Speaking on the new service, Alexander Ibehre, the acting head of SME segment at MTN Nigeria's Enterprise Business Unit, said the objective of MTN HyNet LTE is to 'continuously create new value for customers."

"This is also part of our resolve to take small businesses to the next level through technology. The incredibly fast MTN HyNetLTE service is indeed positioned to help SMEs have an awesome broadband experience, do business much better and ultimately turn into huge success stories," he said.

He disclosed that subscribers that were using the old HyNet modems can also upgrade for free when they swap for the all-new LTE-enabled devices.

"All they need do is to simply visit any MTN Walk-In Centre, submit the old modem in exchange for the new one, switch on the new modem back in the office or at home - and they are ready to browse," he said.

Ibehre added that the service is available in Lagos metropolis for now, but would soon be extended to other cities across the country.
