Velmie delivers Sierra Leones’ first digital banking super app
As part of its efforts to increase financial inclusion on the continent, global banking technology firm Velmie recently powered the launch of Vult, Sierra Leone's first digital banking super app, which it says is currently online and gaining substantial interest.
Built in partnership with Metro Cable, the country’s broadband provider, Velmie asserts this is a key milestone in digital finance for the region and highlights how scalable, API-driven infrastructures can fast-track financial inclusion.
Vult's introduction comes at a time when the World Bank notes that Sub-Saharan Africa has seen tremendous development in financial inclusion over the last decade, owing in large part to the uptake of mobile money accounts.
It states that the region is still working to increase access and usage, as well as more equitable access based on gender, income, education, and age.
Slava Ivashkin, founder and CEO of Velmie, tells ITWeb Africa that his organisation is proud to be a part of this innovative moment and to advance financial inclusion in Sierra Leone.
“The launch of Vult is more than just a technical achievement — it’s a milestone in our mission to deliver real, inclusive financial impact,” says.
He went on to say: “We believe that innovation should be accessible, adaptable, and locally relevant. Our partnership with Metro Cable exemplifies this approach — blending our advanced fintech infrastructure with their deep-rooted presence in the market. Together, we’re setting a new standard for how financial services can evolve and scale across Africa.”
The Vult platform integrates mobile money, card payments, banking services, and bill payments into one seamless and secure user experience — all powered by Velmie’s banking technology.
The company elaborates further: “Velmie’s modular, API-first architecture enabled Metro Cable to move from concept to launch in less than 6 months. Built for flexibility and growth, the solution is already transforming financial access in underserved regions while delivering robust functionality for the banked population.”
“Africa is one of the most dynamic frontiers for digital financial innovation,” said Paul Shumsky, chief marketing officer at Velmie. “What we’ve delivered in Sierra Leone is not just an app — it’s the infrastructure for financial empowerment.”
Aminata Bangura, head of product at Vult, said:. “Their infrastructure gave us the flexibility to adapt to market realities and the scalability to grow with confidence. We’re proud to bring world-class financial tools to Sierra Leoneans — and we’re just getting started.”
