ZAMBIA plans to give free Wi-Fi connectivity at international airports, shopping malls, and bus terminals, among other public facilities.

The Zambia Research and Education Network (ZAMREN) is driving the Eduroam programme.

ZAMREN is a specialised internet service provider focused on meeting the demands of research and education.

The service provider pledged to use Eduroam to encourage the use of digital services for learning and research.

Eduroam internet is already available at all ZAMREN-affiliated schools and universities around the country.

The Kenneth Kaunda International Airport and the East Park shopping mall in Lusaka, the capital, are the most recent infrastructures to be connected.

ZAMREN acknowledged that preparations are underway to expand to other malls, international airports, and possibly intercity bus terminals.

"Our students, learners, researchers, and educators can conduct their business while enjoying a cup of coffee at East Park mall and waiting to board a flight at Kenneth Kaunda International Airport," said Felix Mutati, Minister of Science and Technology.

He stated that Eduroam's rollout simplified and facilitated learning and research.
