Two years after the launch of the Konza Technopolis City project, the government has mobilised the basic infrastructure that will be used as part of road and communication work in the area.

Konza will receive three fibre optic connections. The road and communication projects will assist companies that have a vested interest in the technology city, to set up shop. The government is also rolling up its sleeves to ensure that Phase 1 of the Project, which includes all basic infrastructure, is completed by 2018.

"I instruct the cabinet and principal secretaries for treasury and communication to work together and the board [Konza Technopolis Development Authority] to solve some of the budgetary constraints that exist in the way of this project," the Deputy President, William Ruto said during the relaunch.

Konza City is expected to emerge as the largest technology city in Sub Saharan Africa. It will host international technology companies in a 5,000 acre land, spur technology innovation within the country and the region, and serve as a catalyst for the creation of technology jobs for the youth.

The project is expected to contribute 17,000 jobs by 2017 and contribute over KShs 10 billion shillings (US$100 million) to the economy by 2018.
