Nigeria has established the Fourth Industrial Revolution Technology in Agriculture Project, a collaboration between the National Agricultural Development Fund (NADF) and the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA).

The partnership aims to leverage technology such as Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAV), Artificial Intelligence (AI), Internet of Things (IoT), Data Analytics, and Robotics, among others, to improve agricultural productivity and sustainability across the country.

The director general of NITDA, Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, said: “This collaboration will identify, demonstrate, and mainstream market-ready innovations to transform the Nigerian Agricultural sector through technology.

“Our intent is to encourage and inspire the use of technology, especially the Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies like UAV, IoT, AI and Blockchain, to optimise different sectors of our economy.”

He went on to say: “This partnership is driven by President Tinubu’s vision, which aims to harness the power of Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies to supercharge agricultural productivity and sustainability.”

Mohammed Abu Ibrahim, the executive secretary and CEO of the NADF, underlined the critical connection between agriculture and technology.

The partnership's major goals, according to Ibrahim, are to increase agricultural production, improve food security, drive economic growth, and stimulate economic development through agricultural innovation and job creation.
