
Wholesale African fibre optic supplier, Liquid Telecom, has opened a data centre in Nairobi, Kenya.
Dubbed the ‘East Africa Data Centre’, the carrier neutral facility is expected to offer dedicated hosting, interconnect services, colocation, disaster recovery, network-based services, applications and cloud services to carriers, network providers and enterprises.
The East Africa Data Centre is also an independent company within the Liquid Telecom Group.
According to reports, the centre promises 99.982% guaranteed availability.
It also has a security and access control system that features full-time CCTV surveillance, biometrics, metal detectors, card readers, turnstiles at various access points.
Staff are also said to be onsite every day of the year, while the centre -- which is connected to the grid -- is also connected to two diesel generators.
Liquid, which is a subsidiary of African telecommunications group Econet Wireless, claims to have the largest fibre-optic network reach in Africa, with infrastructure extending 13,000 km from Cape Town to East Africa.
