The Namibia Institute of Pathology is rolling out 370 tablets to remote health facilities and clinics.

To simplify the retrieval of patient test results, the Namibia Institute of Pathology (NIP) has commenced the rollout of tablet devices to clinics nationwide.

The roll-out is part of the institute’s digital transformation aimed at enhancing services and improving access to laboratory results for healthcare facilities. This forms part of the NIP’s five year Integrated Strategic Business Plan, named Za Tuka.

The plan, launched in 2022, aims to improve operational efficiency, profitability, and service delivery.

According to the institute, the devices will assist in reducing waiting time for test results.

Quoted by the Windhoek Observer, Kapena Tjombonde, CEO, NIP said: “Once the tests are completed, NIP will then inform the clinic and the results are automatically loaded on to the system, which can be accessed via the tablets that we are installing countrywide.”

NIP announced its procurement of 370 tablets in August for remote health facilities and clinics in the country.

Giving an update on the rollout’s status, the institute said that 170 tablets have been distributed so far to remote clinics, with plans to deploy the additional 200 tablets to clinics nationwide.

“We are creating a future-fit NIP. The primary focus is on our people, processes, and technology,” Tjombonde added.
