Alliance to bolster satellite broadband coverage in West Africa
Satellite and broadband communication service provider CSS has announced a partnership with Forsway, a provider of innovative solutions for combining satellite with existing terrestrial technologies, to deliver affordable broadband in the West Africa region.
The partnership will leverage CSS’ local expertise, Arabsat’s Xtend Africa managed service and Forsway’s satellite broadband extension to achieve set goals.
Houssein Cherif, CEO and founder of CSS, said the company has been trialing the Xtend Africa managed service from Forsway/Arabsat during the first assessment phase.
According to Cherif the results have been promising - boosting poorly performing mobile and VSAT links in an affordable and dynamic way.
He said: “Therefore, despite the uncertain times we live in, we committed to investing in additional equipment and expanding our West African service offering. Now, more than ever, affordable broadband can make a difference in our local markets.”
Tobias Forsell, CEO of Forsway, said the company teamed up with Arabsat who has been using Forsway’s Xtend satellite extension platform and BADR-7 to provide managed, pan-African broadband services.
“With people restricted in their mobility, affordable broadband is more critical than ever. With over three billion people lacking reliable internet access, Forsway is working hard to do our part in making connectivity accessible to all,” said Forsell.
CSS has been providing critical satellite and broadband services for nearly 20 years in its home market Mauritania, and neighboring countries.
Its customers include the government and players in natural resources, NGOs and enterprise sectors.
Forsway on the other hand has been enabling broadband services for the large demographics of users in emerging markets lacking reliable internet access. The company’s technology eliminates the need to deploy additional network infrastructure, creating significant time and cost savings for operators and service providers.
