MTN Cameroon CEO Mitwa Ng’ambi.

Mitwa Ng'ambi has officially taken up position as MTN Cameroon’s CEO and has been given the mandate to maintain the company’s dominance in the local telecommunications industry.

Ng’ambi was appointed on 30 June this year and takes over from Stephen Blewett who is leaving the MTN Group.

Ng’ambi is expected to execute MTN’s Ambition 2025 strategy and specifically focus on building platforms, driving industry-leading connectivity operations, creating shared value and accelerating portfolio transformation.

She is also tasked with leading the company’s eco-responsibility drive.

Media relations and company spokesperson Paul-Henri Mbongo said, “As with the MTN Foundation, the first corporate foundation in Cameroon, the Cameroonian telecommunications market leader is committed to attracting attention to bring about change, inspire and incite Cameroonian companies to adopt socially responsible behaviour.”

According to Mbongo, the new CEO’s experience, exceptional leadership skills and expertise make her fit for the task at a time the company is undergoing rapid transformation “from a telco to a techo.”

In her previous position as part of the executive leadership at MTN Rwanda, Ng’ambi spearheaded the company’s listing on the stock exchange and helped establish a Fintech subsidiary.

Another- and unofficial source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Ng’ambi is ready to “to scale up” MTN Cameroon’s subscriber base beyond the current number of 10 million.

She is also expected to prioritise the mobile money segment where MTN faces stiff competition from Orange Money.
