Entrepreneurs from across Africa and even beyond its borders are set to start converging on Kigali, Rwanda Wednesday for a three-day international conference on technology in education.

The participants will discuss effective strategies to help promote technology in education in Africa and even across the world at the Rwanda International Conference on Technology in Education (RICTE), being held in Kigali from 5 to 7 September.

Countries that have confirmed attendance of the summit include Ivory Coast, India, Thailand, Norway, Switzerland, Germany and the East African Community (EAC) partner states.

Rwanda Minister of Education, Vincent Biruta, said the conference would give the education sector an opportunity " to showcase ICT development in schools."

He urged the Rwandans, especially scholars, to take up technology studies at university level to be at the forefront of promoting local talent in applications and solution entrepreneurship.

The conference is said to potentially attract 300 delegates from across the globe, including mobile handset manufacturers. Key speakers are also set to include Professor Nicklas Negroponte, the founder of One Laptop Per Child.

"Our country is on the right track in as far as promotion of technology in education is concerned but we still have a long way to go in achieve this goal and it's in this regard that I encourage all citizens especially the youth, researchers and academicians in general to play a key role in helping the government in this endeavour," Biruta said.
