The Malawi Communications Regulatory Authority (MACRA), through the Connect-A-School (CAS) project sponsored by the Universal Service Fund (USF), intends to build more than 100 Information Communication Technology laboratories in schools across the country.

The CAS project aims to construct 193 Smart Labs in educational institutions around the country.

Each laboratory will have the capacity to house 60 computers. According to the CAS initiative, MACRA would initially give 20 computers and offer free internet connection for three years. In the first phase, they plan to target 75 constituencies.

In an interview with ITWeb Africa, Bright Sonani, communications manager at MACRA, stated that the Malawi 2063 Vision includes digitalization as a critical accelerator for socioeconomic development.

Furthermore, he stated that the Malawi Digital Strategy encourages public and private actors to support education sector growth through the use of technology.

He noted there are several additional efforts focused at linking schools to the internet, including Last Mile Connectivity, which has connected 145 schools and universities around the country.
