Metacom MC614F router redefines connectivity capability

Commercial and industrial communications provider, Metacom has launched the MC614F Intelligent Router, which comes with an impressive list of features and redefines router design. The MC614F is an evolution of Metacom's highly-successful MC600 product range, crafted to harness the potential of modern connectivity and technology.

"The incredibly successful MC600 product range has been deployed in more than 22 countries - including South Africa - and has provided connectivity to remote sites, corporate head offices and regional outlets for the past ten years," says Réan van Niekerk, Managing Director of Metacom.

"The MC614F is the latest evolution of this product range and includes a plethora of new services that have been tailored to meet the changing needs of the market, technology and customer."

The MC614F is one of the only products on the continent capable of managing ADSL, LTE, fibre and Wi-Fi on a single integrated platform. While previous models did make use of fibre connectivity to provide WAN support, this model allows fibre to terminate directly on the router itself, delivering higher speeds, throughput and data capacity.

"Fibre capability is essential in our key markets. There is a demand for faster data throughput alongside low latency fibre. The MC614F is an essential step in our router offering that delivers precisely what our customers want," adds van Niekerk.

Upgraded deliverables for improved connectivity and capability

The MC614F has received a significant upgrade to its processing capacity to meet the demand for higher data throughput. Thanks to the 1GHz iMX6S Arm Cortex A9 processor, the router has the capacity to simultaneously run video content, apps and managed Wi-Fi services to thousands of remote stores.

The MC614F router also has a SFP slot that accepts 100BASE-LX and 100BASE-SX and 1.25G SFP modules, and a Wi-Fi module with support for multiple SSIDs with diversity antenna.

"An ADSL-only router typically has a maximum throughput of only 10Mb per second, so the ability to go directly to fibre and with a four port gigabit switch is an impressive leap that customers will appreciate. The router can now handle multiple video, audio, and content streams at the same time."

Improved VLAN management with the ability to handle multiple VPN connections, as well as Quality of Service (QoS) now allows for a secure point of sale network to operate over the same physical infrastructure as a retail video network and/or a customer Wi-Fi network, without compromising security or transaction success.

"The MC614F has been custom designed to be seamlessly integrated into the Metacom VPN environment, assuring customers of exceptional quality, connectivity and access to our managed services. It has been optimised for remote management and support purposes and comes as a part of our fully-integrated managed services package," concludes van Niekerk.
