MTN Group reassigns Rwanda, South Sudan CEOs
MTN Group reassigned MTN Rwanda's Mapula Bodibe and MTN South Sudan's Ali Monzer yesterday as part of a strategic restructure.
Africa's largest telecoms provider with over 289 million subscribers, said the leadership rotation is part of a larger strategy to support succession planning, drive operational excellence, and advance its Ambition 2025 mission.
MTN Rwanda chairman Faustin Mbundu welcomed Monzer, noting that he brings more than two decades of telecom experience, most recently as CEO of MTN South Sudan.
“His extensive experience of 21 years in telecoms will certainly bode well for MTN Rwanda,” said Mbundu
During his time in South Sudan, he led the company through economic adversity, including hyperinflation, currency fluctuation, and war.
He now joins MTN Rwanda with a mandate: to build on Bodibe's strong foundation and propel the firm to new heights.
Bodibe, who has led MTN Rwanda since 2022, leaves a record of significant accomplishments as she moves to South Sudan.
Under her leadership, the company established its own 4G network, hosted Rwanda's first live 5G demonstration, and collaborated with the government on the inexpensive Ikosora smartphone initiative.
She also led the network upgrade in Kigali in partnership with Ericsson.
“I would like to thank Mapula for her leadership at MTN Rwanda. She was key to MTN launching our own 4G network among many other achievements,” said Mbundu.
