DXN Limited and Mozambican communications services provider Speedcast have penned a deal.

Datacentre services provider DXN Limited and Mozambican communications services provider Speedcast have penned a deal valued at US$1.2-million (AU$2.3-million) to establish a modular cable station to reinforce Speedcast’s Mozambique operation.

An excerpt from a statement made available to ITWeb Africa reads: “In the event that phase 1 and phase 2 are completed, the total value of the agreement to DXN is approximately AU$2.3 million.”

Matthew Madden, CEO of DXN Limited said the contract allows the company to participate in building the critical infrastructure required to support off-shore energy projects in Mozambique.

“This cable landing station is part of one of the top ten oil and gas projects in 2020, the undertaking itself being one of a series of major projects set to transform Africa’s natural gas industry over the next five years,” said Madden.

He added that during the course of the formal international evaluation, DXN’s best-in-class designs and solutions met Speedcast’s requirements.

“We were able to provide excellent references for previous projects in the Pacific region and are delighted that we will be supporting this very important endeavour.”

Speedcast continues to raise its profile on the continent. In 2019, it won a multi-year contract with integrated chemical and energy firm Sasol for fully-managed communications solutions and IT support in Mozambique.

Through the contract, Speedcast said it would provide a broad portfolio of connectivity services and onsite IT support for Sasol drilling exploration camps in Mozambique.

In January 2020, the company announced its selection to provide satellite internet services, equipment, life-cycle operation, installation, maintenance and logistics support to the United Nations and the independent national electoral committee in Niger republic.
