Mass Thiam appointed Tigo Senegal CEO

Tigo Senegal has appointed Mass Thiam as its new CEO, to take over from Mitwa Kaemba Ng'ambi who served as Director General.

Prior to this appointment, Thiam occupied leadership positions in several sectors including energy, investment promotion, customer relationship management, oil and gas, and has worked for companies including ExxonMobil, PCCI General Management, Teyliom Properties, Aggreko West and Central Africa, as well as Diass Special Economic Zone.

Yérim Abib Sow, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SENTEL GSM SA, new owners of Tigo Senegal, said, "We wish him every success in his mission to relaunch the activities of SENTEL GSM which will have to position itself as a major player in the creation of a national digital ecosystem for the greater benefit of our customers and also from our country Senegal."

Thiam said he said strategic repositioning of SENTEL GSM will require an aggressive investment policy associated with 'actions of rupture'.

"The ultimate goal is to democratise access to our services at all times and for all our customers."

ITWeb Africa reported the sale of Millicom's operation in Senegal was finalised eight months after the transaction was announced.

In February 2017 Millicom first announced that it had agreed to sell its Senegal business to financial services company Wari Group for US$129 million before switching and selling to the consortium led by Sow.

The sale of Millicom's businesses in Africa began in 2016 with the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), followed by a merge of its operations in Ghana with those of (Bharti) Airtel in 2017, as well as the sale of its Rwandan unit at the end of January 2018.
