Anonymous Sudan, a Sudanese hacker group, has targeted another East African country, this time Uganda.

Earlier this year, organisation targeted most digital services in Kenya. The gang accepted responsibility for a series of Distributed Denial-of-Service (DDoS) assaults on Kenyan media outlets, hospitals, institutions, and companies.

Nigeria was next; in August, the organisation claimed that a similar attack had been launched against MTN Nigeria, the country's major telecom firm.

Now, Anonymous Sudan has claimed responsibility for a DDoS attack that impacted mobile providers in Uganda this week.

Major operators Airtel, MTN, and Uganda Telecom all experienced problems.

The Anonymous Sudan claimed that this attack was targeting firms that supported the Rapid Support Forces in the civil fight against the Sudanese Armed Forces.

It could not be ascertained as to how Uganda and the mobile operators are involved in the conflict that has raged in Sudan since April last year.

“We have launched a fatal cyber-attack on the infrastructure of the majority of Uganda's telecommunications network,” Anonymous Sudan stated in a cryptic post.

Also, the group claimed to have conducted a big DDoS on the educational infrastructure in Kenya.

“Attacks against Kenya will continue as they continue to support the genocidal Rapid Support Forces in Sudan,” it said

Netblocks, a think group that monitors cyber security and digital governance, reported that their metrics indicated a disruption to Uganda mobile operators' networks and a new collapse of internet access in Sudan.
