DRC pioneers transformative digital identity system
The Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) is pioneering digital identification technology, which is expected to deliver numerous benefits to the country during its digital transformation journey.
The government of the huge African country is working with Trident Digital Tech, a Singapore-based company, to implement the digital identification project.
Soon Huat Lim, Trident's founder, chairman, and CEO, was in DRC, where he demonstrated the potential of the company's technology.
He believes that this initiative will transform all sectors of the DRC's economy by reducing identity fraud and cyber-crime to protect the country's digital future, transforming public administration with less bureaucracy and more transparency.
Also, Lim believes the digital IDs will accelerate financial inclusion by giving millions of unbanked citizens’ access to banking services and digital payments.
Furthermore, the initiative aims to improve student identification, online learning, and academic verification in education, as well as provide improved healthcare access through secure medical records, the company said.
Lim stated that Trident would 'redefine trust' in digital interactions using modern technologies such as Web 3.0 blockchain artificial intelligence, biometrics, and zero-knowledge proofs.
"It is more than just a tool. It is a catalyst for transformation across the country and continent," he said.
Augustin Kibassa Maliba, DRC's minister of posts, telecommunications, and digital technology, commended the project.
