African social network Mxit on Thursday launched version 7 of its Apple iOS application, following the start of a phased launch of the upgraded app earlier this week.

Mxit 7 for iOS is officially live and available for download in Apple App store.

Meanwhile, the application is scheduled for launch on Android and BlackBerry devices in the coming weeks, and Windows Phone early next year, Mxit has said in a statement.

Key features of Mxit 7 for iOS include a more simple look.

Mxit further says that the app “is one of the only chat apps native to Apple’s newest operating system.”

Other features include the ability to drop photos from a photo stream into the background of any chat window, being able to ‘draw picture doodles’ on screen or on photos and share them in chats, and voice-chat, which involves recording and sending audio voice clips and messages.

Mxit is a South African created mobile social network that has 7.4 million monthly active users, of which 6.5 million are in South Africa.

Over 8,000 different handsets and mobile devices can download and access the Mxit platform.
