Liquid Telecom South Africa, part of pan-African telecoms group Liquid Telecom, has partnered with Internet Solutions, to provide them with wholesale 5G connectivity targeted at delivering enterprise services to their existing and potential new customer base.

In a statement the companies explain that 5G connectivity provides operators and ISPs with faster speeds, lower latency and greater capacity, "ultimately enabling businesses to deliver richer experiences to their customers."

Reshaad Sha, chief executive officer of Liquid Telecom South Africa said: "Local businesses are adopting technologies like SD-WAN, IOT, and cloud computing, however, these technologies need network connectivity that provides high quality, increased capacity, and greater reliability to ensure optimum performance. Managing Executive for Internet Solutions, Dr Setumo Mohapi said: "Internet Solutions has evolved its networking model to provide a high-performance Hybrid Network that aggregates multiple WAN transport services. Meanwhile ITWeb reported that during his State of the Nation Address (SONA), delivered yesterday before a joint sitting of the National Assembly and National Council of Provinces, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said that a new 5G-ready city driven by smart technologies is taking shape in Lanseria, Gauteng.

ITWeb quoted Ramaphosa as saying: "This process is being led by the investment and infrastructure office in the Presidency alongside the provincial governments of Gauteng and North West, working together with the cities of Johannesburg, Tshwane and Madibeng."

He added: "This is a real city that is rising from the ground and going up...we have put together an innovative process that will fund the electricity, water, digital infrastructure and roads that will be the foundation of this new city."
