MTN GlobalConnect and Belgacom International Carrier Services (BICS) have renewed their partnership to collaborate in international mobility and connectivity for Africa.

In a statement today, the two say, this partnership will see the complementary strengths of both companies coming together to accelerate the growth of mobile and digital services in Africa.

MTN GlobalConnect, an MTN Group operating company, is a digital wholesale and infrastructure services firm, with presence in five African countries, namely Nigeria, Ghana, Uganda, Zambia and Kenya.

While BICS provides communication solutions, offering voice, messaging, roaming, connectivity, security, fraud prevention, cloud communication, and business intelligence services to telecom providers.

The partnership, MTN says, reinforces both organisations’ cloud communications, roaming, and IoT ambitions.

“It will accelerate the digital transformation of communication services across Africa, particularly focused on the trust and authenticity of each interaction and dialogue.

“According to GSMA, by the end of the decade, there will be more than 340 million 5G connections in Africa - supporting the digital growth story and security of these services is instrumental to both MTN GlobalConnect and BICS.”

Frédéric Schepens, MTN GlobalConnect CEO, comments: “It's important that we form strong partnerships to provide MTN’s 289 million subscribers with seamless digital services for ease of connectivity and collaboration around the world.

“As a strong partner, the evolution of the connectivity relationship between MTN GlobalConnect and BICS will support the growth of digital services in Africa and allow our business to continue to invest in cutting edge technologies, such as 5G.”

“BICS’ mission is to create opportunities by connecting communities,” says Matteo Gatta, BICS CEO.

“Over the next few years, MTN GlobalConnect, together with its partners, will actively contribute to the expansion of connectivity that will drive digital services across Africa. Through this partnership, people, communities, and enterprises from throughout the continent will have access to the power of communications to realise their full potential.”
