Nokia Networks will provide the radio and core network as well as managed services to help build Rwanda's first commercial LTE network.

A joint venture between South Korea's KT Corporation and Rwanda's government called 'olleh Rwanda Networks (oRn)' has chosen Nokia Networks to be sole supplier for this part of the project.

oRn is Rwanda's only infrastructure company tasked with rolling out the wholesale provision of a universal mobile broadband network in Rwanda using 4G LTE technology.

And Nokia Networks is tasked with delivering this LTE network using its Flexi Multiradio 10 Base Station and Evolved Packet Core (EPC).

"The radio system modules will be housed in a centralised base station hotel, and the related RF units will be distributed into the antenna sites," says Nokia Networks in a statement.

"The EPC includes the company's Flexi Network Server (Flexi NS) and Flexi Network Gateway (Flexi NG). Additionally, Nokia Networks will provide its software for Subscriber Data Management(SDM), including One-NDS and its Home Subscriber Server (HSS)," notes Nokia Networks.

Other services on offer from Nokia Networks are to include network implementation, planning and optimisation, systems integration and network operations.

"Not only will the entire OSS be managed by Nokia Networks, but care services, including hardware, software and competence development services, will also be delivered to ensure seamless operations and a smooth rollout," says the company.
