Lars Stork, CEO of Vodafone Zambia, has retired, according to a statement issued by the company's board on 6 June 2018.

In the statement the company explains that Board Chairperson Gilbert Temba briefed staff and thanked Stork on behalf of the Board and management for his service to the company and wished him the best in his future endeavours.

The statement made no reference to reasons for Stork's departure, but said the company would announce a new CEO "soon" as well as other structural changes including new ownership of Vodafone Zambia.

"Vodafone Zambia is one of Zambia's fastest growing ISPs and was recently granted authority by the Regulator ZICTA to start providing VoLTE services in Zambia. The Chairman has equally thanked Vodafone customers for the continued support and pledge improved service," read the statement.

In the first quarter of the year the company announced two appointments as part of its strategy to expand its distribution network and secure more market share, particularly within the hugely competitive 4G services space.

In February it appointed Amon Jere as its new Chief Sales and Distribution Officer and in April appointed Jussab Kara as its new Chief Technical and Information Technology Officer.

In April 2017 the company responded to the government's announcement of a new licensing framework in the telecommunications industry.

At the time Stork said: "We anticipate increased investment in the sector, translating into better quality of service for the consumer, increased employment opportunities and revenue vital for development projects. This decision will forever be etched in Zambia's development story and its ripple effect will be felt for generations to come."
