Samsung unveils Note 3, smartwatch for Africa
Electronics giant Samsung has launched its next generation ‘phablet’ device, the Galaxy Note 3, as well as the gadget’s companion smartwatch for the African market.
The Note 3 fits into what Samsung calls a ‘phablet’ range because it is larger than a typical smartphone but smaller than a tablet.
And following the launch of the first Samsung Note in 2011, the company’s third generation device has features that include a wider 5.7 inch full High Definition (HD) display, a slimmer
8.3mm and lighter (168g) form factor, and a more powerful and longer lasting battery.
The Note 3 also comes equipped with a 13 megapixel rear camera.
Meanwhile, the Samsung smartwatch, dubbed ‘Galaxy Gear’, is wearable tech that is only compatible with the Note 3.
Features of the Galaxy Gear -- which uses Bluetooth to communicate with the Note 3 -- include notifications of incoming messages, ‘hands-free’ calls, a ‘find my device’ application and a 25 hour battery life.
Samsung says plans are in place for the smartwatch to be compatible with its other smart devices such as its Galaxy smartphones the SII and SIII.
The Note 3 goes on sale in markets such as South Africa from September 27, while the Galaxy Gear is set for release across Africa during October 2013.
The Note 3 is to be priced at around $900 while the smartwatch is planned to cost an additional $460.
