With all Kenyan taxpayers now compelled to use electronic tax invoices (eTIMS), DigiTax, one of the Kenya Revenue Authority's (KRA) five certified and listed vendors, has engaged Statsspeak Group, a data analytics and software development company, as an onboarding partner.

Statsspeak will be in charge of market mapping, user education, and onboarding of individuals, consultants, small medium enterprises and big corporations onto DigiTax, an end-to-end platform that offers eTIMS compliance.

Digitax is maintained by Namiri Technology Limited, one of the KRA-approved technology partners that supports client onboarding onto eTIMS to improve the tax remittance experience for both VAT registered and non-VAT registered taxpayers.

"With their (Statsspeak) combined experience in business intelligence, customer insights, and analytics, they are the right partner to ensure we work with Kenyans to reduce the friction and pain points of tax compliance," stated Caine Wanjau, co-founder and CEO of Namiri Technology.

KRA recently revised the Tax Procedures Act to mandate the use of electronic tax invoices by all taxpayers, including those who are not VAT registered.

Effective September 1, 2023, every person in business is expected to produce and submit Electronic Tax Invoices and keep a stock record using an electronic management system authorised by the Commissioner.

Furthermore, beginning January 1, 2024, all taxpayers are expected to support expenses claimed in their tax filings with electronic tax invoices generated and uploaded to KRA's system.

KRA claims that expanding electronic tax invoicing to include all taxpayers is part of its strategy to improve tax compliance.
