Millennials cementing place in global workforce, says Intel
A global workforce made up of millennials, or generation Y, is expected to top the 50% mark by 2020.
This according to Christian Morales, vice president, general manager Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA) who was speaking at the annual Intel Solutions Summit 2014 in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Morales describes generation Y as those individuals born between 1977 and 1994 who carry and use anything from three or to six devices in the workplace.
Speaking in a room filled with some 750 channel partners and customers, Morales noted that the environment was changing and technology has been transforming how people live and work.
“Today we have 2.4 billion internet users connected around the world and a billion are still waiting to be connected,” he said.
“And the major trend we are seeing worldwide is the evolution of the workforce, and this is what we call the millennials. The way they use devices is very different,” Morales added.
This is has become a new way of communicating, using social networks or innovating, cooperating and creating on a worldwide basis, he said.
Rod O’Shea EMEA regional director, IOT group at Intel also noted that generation Y is transforming the nature and culture of the workforce, with over 90% of millennials leaving ‘college’ want to work for a startup.
O’Shea added that “29% of millennials will find love on Facebook, meanwhile 30% will be ‘dumped’ via the social network’s wall post message”.
The EMEA Intel Solutions Summit 2014 has been organised to inform Intel partners about the latest channel offerings and products, and explore the impact of new technologies on the customer experience.
