Mauritius Telecom rebrands as MyT
Following the September 2017 expiration of its-ten year agreement for the use of the Orange brand name, Mauritius Telecom has announced it will now be referred to as MyT.
The company, once known as the Cellplus network, first used the Orange brand name in September 2007.
A decade on and Mauritius Telecom said it will incorporate its own brand name, MyT and the change will impact its products and services.
Optical fibre internet subscribers will now identify the service as MyT; mobile data service will become MyT Mobile, while business services will be referred to as MyT Business.
The rebranding also affects the company's mobile money service which will now become MyT Money.
Confirming the development Sherry Singh, CEO of Mauritius Telecom said there is still a business relationship in place with Orange as it holds a 40% stake in the company.
"The company will adopt a new brand and over the weeks and months, there will be a single brand for Mauritius Telecom products. The change will be done gradually. The agreement to use Orange expired in September and we had to think about a new brand," Singh said.
According to Singh 96% of Mauritius can now access optical fibre and the entire country is expected to be covered by the end of December.
The CEO also revealed that out of potential 325,000 customers, approximately 215,000 subscribers are already connected to the MyT fibre.
"Our goal will be achieved because we have put in place a three-year plan and then revised it to two years," Singh added.
