Mascom details strategy to dominate in Botswana

Mobile operator Mascom Wireless has unveiled new products and services as part of a strategy to dominate Botswana’s growing ICT and telecommunications markets.

Mascom Wireless CEO Dzene Makhwade-Seboni confidently stated the company’s intention: “Mascom is committed to providing innovative and exciting products and services with a sharp focus to ensure it retains the number one spot as the leading digital service provider and the provider of choice to all users.”

The latest offering is an upgrade on MySurf launched in 2019 as a business broadband package to a triple play home and business broadband.

Another product is Mascom Chat, a WhatsApp-based interface through which customers will be able to check their account balances and purchase airtime and data services.

With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic driving the use of the internet, MySurf is expected to close the gap and provide reliable connectivity for remote access to the internet.

Scheduled for release in August, the upgraded MySurf will offer three packages - MySurf Bronze an entry level with a maximum download speed of 4Mpbs, MySurf Instant offering a maximum download speed of 2Mpbs and MySurf Silver offering maximum download speed of 6Mbps.

The revamp of MySurf is supported by ongoing network developments and upgrades across the country.

“Amongst the network initiatives earmarked for 2021 Mascom is deploying an additional 120 4G sites as well 160 new 4.5G sites which are aimed at capacity enhancement to reduce network congestion,” said Tebogo LebotseSebego, Chief Communications and PR Officer at Mascom.

LebotseSebego added that coverage within remote villages, such as Matsiloje Central, as well as the launch of 4G in Hukuntsi, a village in Kgalagadi District, are among the company’s milestones achieved thusfar.
