IBM Research – Africa seeks software engineering interns in Kenya

IBM Research – Africa, based in Nairobi, Kenya, is offering a 12-week paid software engineering internship for undergraduates and post-graduates.

The research facility says the programme gives qualifying candidates an opportunity to work on “meaningful” technology solutions, and develop scalable software systems.

Also, participants will collaborate with top research scientists and engineers in climate and sustainability.

“As a software engineering intern, you will work on research questions that are of interest to IBM and have access to a vast number of tools and resources within the global IBM community to help you succeed,” said a statement from IBM Research – Africa.

To qualify, candidates must be enrolled in the fourth year of a bachelor’s degree programme or the final year of master’s programme in computer science or related technical field.

Candidates must also have a strong understanding of fundamental computer science concepts, such as algorithms and data structures.

In addition, candidates must be proficient in at least one programming language, including, but not limited to, Java, JavaScript, NodeJS or Python.

The internship also requires candidates to have experience in delivering software development projects, experience in cloud native technologies and platforms and understanding machine learning concepts and familiarity with a framework, such as scikit-learn or TensorFlow or PyTorch.

Candidates should also have problem solving and analytical skills.
