Huawei has launched a training initiative and certification program at the 2016 Huawei Channel Services Conference in Johannesburg, covering 11 tech industry fields and 13 directions.

The program consists of three tiers: Huawei Certified Network Associate (HCNA), Huawei Certified Network Professional (HCNP) and Huawei Certified Internetwork Expert-Enterprise (HCIE).

Each level has been designed to include certification paths to enable learners to specialise in fields such as routing and switching (R&S), security, storage, cloud computing, big data, and data centre solutions.

To kick-start the program, technical staff from registered and approved Huawei partners received free HCIE-Routing and Switching (HCIE-R&S) training and will be able to take the certification examinations at no cost.

For every individual who passes the HCIE-R&S examination before the 31st August 2016, the student as well as the partner company will each receive R60,000 as part of the program while the incentive will be reduced to R50,000 each, if the individual passes before 31st December 2016.

The HCIE-Enterprise certification is regarded as the most advanced level of expertise in the routing and switching (R&S) field.

Michael Meng, Vice President of Enterprise Services for Huawei Enterprise in Eastern and Southern Africa says it is a top priority for Huawei to develop technical talent that caters to ICT convergence as evidenced by the certification program.

"Through the introduction of this program and with over 700 full-time instructors and 1000 part-time instructors worldwide, Huawei continues to realise its vision of leading ICT technical certification and nurturing local ICT talent for the future."

Upon gaining qualification across the technical paths, certified HCIE technical experts will be able to help enterprises plan and construct mid-size and large comprehensive networks according to Huawei. They will also be able to provide guidance for the network technology team of enterprises to optimise and reconstruct live networks and ensure the stable operation of enterprise networks.

Huawei has also revealed that ICT professional engineers and senior engineers who already have similar certifications to HCNA and HCNP can also qualify for HCIE-enterprise training.

Newcomers to the ICT industry, the company says, will first need to qualify for HCNA before advancing to HCNP and HCIE. Fees will vary according to the specified path course and will range from between R12000 to R25000 per course, excluding examination fees. Specific certifications will be dependent on attendance figures before it commences.

"The market needs technical certification solutions that are incorporated with the concept of ICT convergence to meet the talent development needs of the industry. Huawei quickly responds to these requirements by launching the high-quality expert certification program to help enterprises capitalise on their workforce and drive the all-round development of the industry," concluded Meng.
