Nokia joins Morocco to push the 2030 digital agenda
Morocco has partnered with Nokia to advance the Digital Morocco 2030 vision by enhancing network connectivity and exchanging technical expertise.
A memorandum of understanding (MoU) to cement the deal was signed this week at the ongoing GITEX Africa 2025 summit in Marrakesh between Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni, Morocco’s minister of digital transition and administrative reform, and Pierre Chaume, Nokia vice president for North, West and Central Africa, in charge of network infrastructure.
The collaboration seeks to enhance the country’s digital readiness while supporting national efforts to expand internet access and develop a robust digital ecosystem.
According to the deal, Nokia will leverage its expertise in telecommunications infrastructure to ensure modern connectivity for guests as Morocco gears up to host key international sporting events this year and 2030.
This deal will involve guiding the improvement of national internet coverage, including deploying 5G networks, expanding fiber infrastructure, and implementing initiatives such as the National Plan for the Development of High and Very High-Speed Broadband and infrastructure sharing frameworks.
The Nokia Innovation Centre, inaugurated by Minister Seghrouchni in 2023, is another key component of the partnership, serving as a hub for talent development, research, and tailored technological solutions.
It will also support the ministry’s Al Jazari initiative, aimed at fostering local innovation and technological excellence.
Also, the MoU will focus on skills development. Nokia plans to offer internationally recognised certification programmes to equip young Moroccan professionals with advanced competencies in digital technologies, telecommunications, and IT.
In the future, Nokia plans to establish a National Digital Fabric based on its Network as Code platform, acting as a national gateway for 4G and 5G services accessible to businesses, start-ups, and academic institutions.
This would act as a national gateway for 4G and 5G services accessible via APIs to businesses, start-ups and academic institutions—paving the way for innovative digital services and economic growth.
Seghrouchni emphasised that the partnership with Nokia is crucial in reinforcing the government’s dedication to advancing the Digital Morocco 2030 strategy.
“By leveraging Nokia’s global expertise, we aim to accelerate Morocco’s digital transformation, improve connectivity and foster an innovation-driven economy,” the minister said.
