Vodafone Ghana has faulted the latest market share report of the country's National Communications Authority (NCA) which claimed the network recorded decrease in its market share.

According to NCA's latest figures, Vodafone's market share dropped from 23.29 per cent in December 2014, to 21.97 per cent in January.

But Vodafone said its subscriber base increased to 7,177,032 at the end of January from 7,069,516 in December. This increase, it said, represents a growth in its market share from 23.29 percent in December last year, to 23.43 percent at the end of January this year.

In a statement Vodafone said in an industry where perception is everything, the misrepresentation by the NCA created a major dent as key websites and media establishments rely on the NCA data for their news reports – reports which shape public perception.

Gayheart Mensah, Director of External Affairs at Vodafone Ghana said: "At Vodafone, there is a concerted and persistent effort to always step up our performance and to provide unmatched customer experience. It is an ethos that is intrinsic to the way we operate as a business – and this we will continue to do."

NCA has admitted it made a mistake in computing the figures which it attributed to an Excel formula error. The mistake has since been corrected and an updated version is now on its website.
