Zimbabwe has teamed with the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to provide 1,5 million coders in the Southern African country with critical skills for the advancement of technology.

The Zimbabwe Digital skills Programme would provide individuals with skills in artificial intelligence, data science, programming fundamentals, and Android developer fundamentals, among others.

The UAE has formed collaboration with the Zimbabwean Ministry of ICT, Postal, and Courier Services.

The programme is the result of an existing collaboration between Zimbabwe and a Middle Eastern country through the Government Experience Exchange Programme.

Abdullar Lutah, UAE’s deputy minister of cabinet affairs represented his country at the launch of the digital skills programme in Harare on Thursday.

“This collaboration stands as a testament to what is possible when nations unite with a shared vision of progress and innovation,” Lutah said.

The host government hails the Zimbabwe Digital Skills Programme as a significant milestone in the country’s digital development roadmap, with the potential to unlock new economic opportunities, promote innovation and transform lives across the nation.

Tatenda Mavetera, the Minister of ICT, Postal and Courier Services, said: “This programme exists today because many hands reached out to make it happen.”
