Namibia’s preparations for its eighth National Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Summit have received a major boost after corporations pledged N$600 000 (US32 400) towards the staging of the event.

The Ministry of Information and Communication Technology has secured the sponsorship at a ministerial sponsorship breakfast at a local hotel in the capital city, Windhoek.

The sponsorship breakfast meeting on Monday was aimed at introducing this year’s sponsorship packages to ICT stakeholders and allowing them to make pledges.

Emma Theofelus, the minister of ICT, presided over the meeting.

Speaking at the event, she said the emergence of digital transformation and artificial intelligence Artificial Intelligence (AI) presented the Southern African country with numerous opportunities for growth.

“It (AI) has the potential to revolutionise industries, enhance efficiencies and improve the lives of our citizens,” she said.

The National ICT Summit will be held from September 9-11.
