Cameroon enhances voter registration with 1,000 new biometric kits.

As Cameroon prepares to elect a new leader this year, the country's election-management organisation, Elections Cameroon (ELECAM), has purchased 1,000 new biometric voter enrolment kits, which will be distributed nationally.

The move is part of a larger push to improve the legitimacy, dependability, efficiency, and security of the voter registration process.

According to ELECAM, the introduction of the kits marks the start of a gradual replacement of previous systems in use since 2012.

The newly acquired kits have innovative technology that ensures more reliable biometric data capture, streamlines the registration workflow, and reduces the danger of duplicate entries or identity fraud.

Each kit includes a Dell laptop with an Intel processor, an integrated biometrics Kojak FAP60 fingerprint scanner that complies with FAP 60 standards for 10-fingerprint capture, a Logitech C930 HD camera with integrated LED lighting, and a Bluetooth thermal printer.

All of these devices are contained in a waterproof, shockproof, and dustproof casing (IP67 standard), making them portable and resistant to harsh conditions.

The equipment also includes a retractable photographic backdrop and tripod, which ensures the quality of ID shots in the field.

Essoussè Erik, director general of ELECAM, stated, "This technological advancement strengthens the transparency and credibility of the electoral process, both nationally and in the diaspora."
