FNB launches cardless withdrawals on app

South African bank First National Bank (FNB) has expanded its cardless cash withdrawal feature to the latest version of its app.

FNB's cardless cash withdrawal feature allows customers to withdraw money at an ATM without using their bank cards.

In a statement the bank says that the feature will be available to the 1.2million active devices that currently use the FNB banking app.

And according to FNB R2 billion has been withdrawn through cardless cash withdrawals on cellphone banking.

Giuseppe Virgillito, head of banking app at FNB Digital Banking says the rollout to the app was the logical next step.

"Enhancement of the FNB Banking App has always been driven by innovative banking solutions and customer demand. Our latest results show a 67% increase in app transaction volumes. This comes as a result of increased usage across the spectrum of app features as well as more customers that are migrating to the app for their digital banking needs."

Virgillito added, "Irrespective of the reason for not having a card with you, your mobile devices are unlikely to be more than an arm's length away. Cardless and cashless features on digital channels ensure simplified banking and 24/7 access to accounts, no matter what the circumstances."

FNB's latest version of the banking app is available from Apple, Android, Windows, and Blackberry app stores.
