Safaricom has unveiled a new regional office in Nakuru city to serve the Rift Valley region, effectively serving as a base from which to run operations within the Rift Region.

The office is the first of six such bases that Safaricom is setting up across Kenya to coordinate operations in each of the country's regions.

Bob Collymore, CEO of Safaricom said, "The opening of this office marks an important milestone in our regionalisation strategy. We are optimistic that it will go a long way in enhancing our business operations and in the long run strengthen our relationship with our customers. Safaricom remains focused on offering the best customer experience with products and services that differentiate us from competition. The expansion of our services to the regions is aimed at engaging our customers from the grassroots, which then helps us address issues faster."

Safaricom's regionalisation strategy, launched last year, was dominated by promotional initiatives such as Stori Ibambe, Safaricom Business fibre to business projects targeting SMEs, as well as other social responsibility initiatives.

Five more Safaricom regional offices will be based at Sameer Business Park (serving Nairobi East Region), Avenue Building in Nyali (serving the Coast Region) and Nyeri Golf area (serving the Mt. Kenya Region). Other offices will be in Nairobi West and Nyanza/ Western region according to Safaricom.

Collymore has confirmed that investment in network infrastructure over the last six months totalled Kshs 18.9bn.

The company says regional headquarters are expected to be operational by March 2017.
