Kenya’s post-paid and internet users on the rise

Kenya’s post-paid subscriptions registered a 7.1% increase in the first quarter for the year (2014/2015, according to the Communication Authority quarterly report.

“Similarly, the number of post-paid subscriptions increased by 7.1% to reach 712,894 during the quarter from 665,697 subscriptions during the last quarter,” the CA said.

Although this is a drop in the ocean compared to the pre-paid market, standing at 32 million, this shows post-paid is still growing, according to the CA.

Internet penetration is also on the increase compared to the last quarter. The country added 1 million internet users in this new quarter.

“Mobile data/internet subscriptions rose by a similar margin of 5.9% to reach 14.7 million up from 13.9 million recorded the previous quarter.

“Consequently, the number of estimated internet users stood at 23.2 million up from 22.3 million users in the last quarter, representing a 4.1% increase during the period,” the report detailed.

According to the quarterly report mobile penetration grew to 80.5% with 32.8 million people gaining access to mobile telephony. This is a 1.3% growth compared to the last quarter which had 79.2%.
