The World Bank will provide $100 million to Zambia to promote digitisation and improve internet access.

This falls under the Digital Zambia Acceleration Project (DZAP), which the bank is preparing for the Southern African country.

The World Bank Board plans to approve the project in March of next year.

Wengcai Zhang, World Bank managing director and chief administrative officer, made the pledge at a meeting with Zambia's minister of science and technology, Felix Mutati, in Lusaka.

"DZAP will support digitalisation in selected high-impact sectors, including nurturing employment-ready digital skills," Zhang told Reuters.

The World Bank's assistance is a significant boost for Zambia as it transforms to a digital economy.
