Technology giant IBM plans to open a global delivery centre targeted at information technology (IT) graduates and professionals in Casablanca, Morocco later this year.

According to IBM, the centre -- which is expected to be opened in September this year -- is planned to help deliver a range of innovative technology services to clients in the North African country and across French-speaking Africa.

The technology company further says it expects to employ up to 400 professionals and entry level hires with backgrounds in computer science, engineering, mathematics and science over the next three years.

Recruits are also planned to be trained in the areas of application management, application development and system integration services, it was revealed.

The company has said it plans to work closely with that country’s government and local universities to support the development of the computer science curriculum.

Graduate assignments and internships to attract the best IT talent from across the region are also to be offered by IBM.

"The centre is part of a broad programme of investment that IBM is making across Africa and reflects IBM's commitment to providing the high-value technology services required by clients in Morocco and French-speaking Africa," said Abdallah Rachidi Alaoui, country general manager, IBM Morocco.

He added, "It also highlights IBM's commitment to partnering with local universities and academic institutions to deliver high value skills highly relevant in today's marketplace."

Morocco's minister of industry, trade and new technologies, Abdelkader Amara, expressed the same sentiments saying that government's partnership with IBM reflects commitment in developing highly skilled professionals.

"The launch and successful development of this technology centre, that is expected to grow in the coming years, will result in a culture that will foster and promote a stronger knowledge-based export economy for Morocco," he said.
