Farai Tigere has been appointed managing director of EFTCorp's Zimbabwe operations, with the goal of promoting financial inclusion, digital transformation, and economic development.

Tigere's new post was announced by the company this week. He joined EFTCorp as an Implementation Engineer before transitioning to business development and solution architecture in 2018.

According to EFTCorp, Tigere played a crucial part in Zimbabwe's payment digitisation initiatives.

The company said his significant experience and local knowledge ideally equip him to navigate Zimbabwe's economic landscape while keeping EFTCorp's products relevant.

“The primary goal is to maintain and expand EFTCorp’s established role as a major player in Zimbabwe’s payment ecosystem, which involves deepening the company’s reach in underserved sectors and further strengthening its presence in commerce,” said Tigere.

He went on to say that his new position signifies progress in his career, while for the company; it is an opportunity for him to lead the Zimbabwean arm of the business through a challenging but exciting period of expansion.

Tigere, according to EFTCorp, seeks to re-establish trust in digital payments by providing solutions that meet the demands of the informal sector, allow for a seamless transition from cash-based to electronic transactions, and increase the accessibility of digital payment systems.

He said: “There is significant potential for payment solutions to drive financial inclusion, ensuring more Zimbabweans benefit from access to formal financial services and opportunities.”

EFT Corporation was formed by the strategic merger of Ukheshe Technologies and EFT Corporation to develop financial technology and services, combining both companies' strengths to reimagine the future of digital financial services.
