Tackling unemployment in Nigeria could receive a boost, as a mobile application called Job Xpress is set to become available on the Glo Mobile network in that country.
Job seekers intent on using the app – developed by a firm called ForgetMeNot Africa - have to first upload up to five versions of their CVs to the JobXpress portal on the ‘Glo Messenger’ website. Once subscribers have done this, they can then send their CVs and job applications attached to emails from any mobile phone, regardless of the model or make of the handset.
Nigeria suffers from an unemployment rate of 23.9%, according to Nigeria's National Bureau of Statistics. Furthermore, youth unemployment stands at 41.6%, says a recent statement by Lamido Sanusi, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.
“Job Xpress helps to level the playing field by giving job applicants a direct method of application, and is a step towards tackling barriers to employment that currently affect young, bright and eager to work Africans," said Jeremy George, ForgetMeNot Africa's chief executive officer.
Glo Mobile has 25 million subscribers in Nigeria. And ForgetMeNot Africa currently provides access to internet-free Facebook, email and online chat apps to over 62 million people across East, West, southern and central Africa.
