Jumia has appointed Lionel Mobi as the new CEO of its Senegal operations, with a mandate to solidify the e-commerce giant’s leading market position in the country.

Cameroonian-born Mobi, who previously served as General Manager at Gozem Benin, makes a return to the company he worked for across several African markets between 2014 and 2019.

Jumia, Africa’s largest e-commerce platform and listed on New York Stock Exchange, has operations across over 32 cities in Senegal, with more than 103 branches and over 3 000 pickup points.

Besides consolidating Jumia’s leadership position, Mobi will have the task of improving customer experience, increasing the e-commerce platform’s customer base and revenues.

The new CEO is confident that the Jumia offering will make a difference to the country’s population. “E-commerce is growing rapidly in Senegal, and I think the time has come to accompany this evolution and make an impact on the lives of Senegalese through the internet, both in large cities and in rural and remote areas,” Mobi said.

Mobi holds a Master’s degree in supply chain management from Saint Jerome Catholic University in Douala, Cameroon, and has years of industry experience in e-commerce, fintech, on-demand transportation and delivery.

He joined Jumia in its then Cameroon operation in 2014 and was Chief Operations Officer until 2019, when the e-commerce company exited the country. During this period, he had a stint in 2017 as operation project manager at Jumia Senegal and also served as Chief Operations Officer of Jumia Ghana between 2019 and 2021.
