Masiyiwa’s daughter appointed to Econet Wireless board
Elizabeth Masiyiwa, daughter of Strive Masiyiwa, has been appointed to the board of Econet Wireless Zimbabwe, the country’s biggest telecoms operator founded by her father.
Strive Masiyiwa resigned from the Econet board of directors on 1 February this year to pave way for “key business moves” he expected to make “over the next few weeks, and months”.
Elizabeth is currently completing an Executive MBA from Cambridge University and has been described as bringing “a wealth of experience” to the board of directors of Econet Wireless, the company said. Her appointment is with effect from the beginning of this month.
“The Board of Econet Wireless Zimbabwe Limited is pleased to announce the appointment of Miss Elizabeth Tanya Masiyiwa to the Board of Econet Wireless Zimbabwe Limited. The appointment is with effect from 1 April 2022,” Econet company secretary, Charles Banda said in a notice.
After resigning from the Econet board, Strive advised his followers to “watch Cassava Technologies, Sasai Fintech, ADC, Distributed Power Africa and Vaya Africa” for new developments.
The Econet board has pivoted its business themes on “bridging the digital divide and delivering a digital lifestyle through connectivity, gaming, and music” streaming.
This has been boosted by data and voice traffic growth of 43% and 6% respectively during the quarter to the end of November 2021. It expects to expand its 5G network to more centres across Zimbabwe.
