Chinese President Xi Jinping this week encouraged developed countries attending the G20 Summit in Brazil to help developing nations with Artificial Intelligence (AI) and climate change.

President Jinping delivered his speech titled "Working Together for a Fair and Equitable Global Governance System" during the 19th G20 Summit, during a session focused on reforming global governance institutions.

He said the G20 needs to improve global digital governance and develop a world economy characterised by innovation.

The Chinese president asked the group to spearhead the digital transformation and integrate the digital economy and ‘the real economy’ in emerging markets.

Furthermore, he stated that international AI governance and cooperation should be strengthened to ensure that the technology benefits everyone.

Jinping's AI statement comes as Africa is being urged to seize opportunities presented by AI in order to accelerate development.

Jinping added that rich countries should help developing countries with the required funds, technology, and capacity-building support.

He further said that in order to achieve beneficial results, the ongoing and next UN conferences on climate change and desertification must be supported jointly.

According to Jinping, China is ready to deepen international cooperation with all parties on green infrastructure, green energy, green mining, and green transportation, and will support developing nations to the best of its ability.
