Safaricom's Mpesa Foundation has launched free medical camps programme across Kenya aimed at easing healthcare challenges.

The programme will be spread across all 47 geographic regions (counties) in Kenya, and is expected to reach 60 000 people. This initiative is part of Safaricom's corporate social responsibility efforts.

Mpesa Foundation has invested $320,000 to support the project and the funds will be used on medical equipment, procure medication, screening of select non-communicable diseases, dental care, eye care, and the management of diabetes and hypertension.

Stephen Kiptinness, corporate affairs chief, Safaricom, comments: “The programme we are launching today complements other landmark initiatives that we have rolled out in collaboration with various counties in a bid to address healthcare challenges.

“At the same time, we are looking to improve our approaches in order to reach as many people as possible. The medical camps are therefore an avenue to ensure better healthcare outcomes for local communities.”
