Vodacom, Huawei unveil DigiTruck in Tanzania
Vodacom and Huawei debuted the DigiTruck in Tanzania yesterday.
Vodacom Tanzania CEO and managing director Philip Besiimire said that the telco's relationship with Huawei will provide important digital education and skills to over 5,500 students, women, the elderly, and youth across ten regions each year.
Besiimire noted that the DigiTruck's purpose is to provide Tanzanians with digital skills, regardless of age or location, so that people can access the digital world and flourish in today's linked economy.
"Together, we are making digital for all a reality," stated the politician.
The occasion was attended by deputy prime minister Dr. Doto Biteko and ICT minister Jerry Silaa, who witnessed the launch of the mobile school meant to bridge the digital gap.
Chen Mingjian, ambassador of the People's Republic of China to Tanzania and chairman of the Vodacom Tanzania board, Justice Thomas Mihayo, was also in attendance.
Huawei DigiTruck offers free digital skills training to people in need, including rural areas.
The DigiTruck, made from a recycled shipping container installed on a truck, is a solar-powered mobile school outfitted with laptops, smartphones, and 4G internet.
