Plans to extend Zimpost's money transfer service ‘Zipcash’ to South Africa are said to be at an advanced stage.

This according to a Zimpost statement, which noted that pilot tests to launch the service in South Africa has already been concluded.

Zimpost is Zimbabwe's postal service. It has a network of 227 outlets nationwide.

Meanwhile, Zipcash is the low-cost money transfer service that allows customers to send or receive money locally and internationally through the postal network.

Zimpost launched Zipcash in December last year and the service has already been extended to neighbouring country, Botswana.

The extension of the service to Botswana was to bring convenience to Zimbabweans with relatives working in Botswana, who are now able to send cash at affordable rates, said Zimpost.

Zipcash has the capacity to connect to over 600,000 Post Offices worldwide, and allows instant money transfer even for those without a bank account, the statement reads.

In addition, Zimbabweans in the diaspora can send money back home through this wide international network.
