Zimbabwe’s second largest mobile operator has confirmed that it plans to launch its mobile money service ‘Telecash’ this week.

Telecel has told ITWeb Africa via its public relations team that it intends to launch the service within days, but the firm has not provided exact details. Reports in Zimbabwe say the service was initially planned to launch in 2013 but faced delays.

Telecash is set to compete with rival operator Econet’s mobile money service EcoCash.

Econet says it has 3 million subscribers that use EcoCash.

Econet is also Zimbabwe’s largest mobile operator with over eight million subscribers. Meanwhile, Telecel has 2.5 million mobile subscribers.
