Zimbabwe is strengthening its enterprise risk management systems to protect public resources and citizens’ information and ensure the secure and reliable implementation of its digital transformation agenda.
Tatenda Mavetera, minister of information communication technology, postal and courier services, reaffirmed the government’s commitment when she officially opened an enterprise risk management workshop for the ministry’s executives in Harare.
The event was held on Monday in the capital.
“As Zimbabwe expands connectivity and embraces digital technologies, it is equally important to prevent fraud, protect public funds and ensure that government projects deliver meaningful benefits to citizens,” she said.
As part of the workshop’s resolutions, the ICT ministry has tasked its departments with documenting operational risks and submitting validated risk registers by 6 November.
The departments have also been directed to strengthen internal controls to prevent fraud and corruption, and to incorporate risk assessments into all new major project proposals with immediate effect.
“Effective risk management is essential to building a secure and reliable ICT sector that supports Zimbabwe’s ambition of becoming an upper-middle-income society by 2030,” Mavetera said.
She called on the departments to work together to ensure that the country’s digital transformation was safe, accountable and inclusive, with the needs and interests of citizens prioritised.
