The SMART Zambia Institute launched a smart office customisation workshop in Chilanga District yesterday as part of the country's paperless strategy.

The Ministry of Technology and Science recently asked the country's technology agencies to go paperless.

According to Percy Chinyama, SMART Zambia's national coordinator, the launch of smart office solutions will allow the government to reduce operational costs, including nearly ZMW400 million ($15m) in stationery costs, improve service delivery, reduce costs associated with paper-based systems, address long-standing issues such as missing files and misclassification of records, and promote transparency and accountability.

Speaking during the event, Percy Chinyama, SMART Zambia's national coordinator, stressed the importance of change and the use of digital transformation tools to help the country go paperless.

“We are living in a time where technology is longer is longer a privilege, but it is a requirement that we are efficient and competitive. This solution is more than an upgrade, it makes a shift in culture and mindset. The biggest thing we are going to fight with in this transformation is the fundamental change management, because of the transformation that will come with this shift that we are about to do,” he said.
